Audition Information

What You Need to Know: General Information

  • Cor Musica is a mixed ensemble that also performs music for women's/men's voices.
  • Auditions are rolling auditions.
  • Repertoire varies widely and is chosen by the group each session.
  • Rehearsal commitment is currently 2 hours per week, typically on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. There is an additional 1 hour rehearsal, not required, used primarily to work on pitch/rhythm difficulties.
  • We rehearse and perform year-round.
  • Public concerts: 2 - 4 a year in addition to other public and private engagements. The public concerts are decided as a group at the beginning of each season, with other performance offers are decided upon as a group.
  • Auditions: by appointment only. Contact through email or telephone to set up an audition time.
What We Need to Know: the Audition Procedure

  • A basic information form to be filled out before you audition, which we discuss with you (experience, what you have done, what you like to do, etc.) so we are able to meet you in addition to your voice.
  • A range check using scales, including falsetto register for men.
  • Singing back pitches, intervals, and short melodies.
  • A short piece or part of a piece which you can sing without accompaniment.
  • Sight reading a solo line.
  • Sight-reading a voice part from a work in our current repertoire with other members filling out the remaining voice parts (you may be asked to read more than one part.)
